What is Urolithiasis?

Urolithiasis is a urinary tract disease in which crystals or stones form in the urinary tract causing pain, irritation and blockage. These bladder stones (also called uroliths) are made up of mineral crystals that combine to form the stones. Although these stones mainly form in the bladder, they can also form in the kidneys.

Can Dog Food Cause Urinary Problems?

There are several factors that can lead to urolithiasis, but the kind of food you feed your dog plays a major role.

Foods with high levels of certain minerals increase the likelihood that minerals will form in the urine. Magnesium and phosphate are mineral components of struvite, which is the most common crystal type, so it is best to stay away from foods with high levels of these minerals.

Crystals are also more likely to form when urine is acidic, so it is a good idea to give your dog foods that are low in acids and support bladder health.

It’s also important to give your dog plenty of water. A lack of water makes urine more concentrated making crystals more likely to form.

What Can I Do to Prevent Urolithiasis?

Giving your dog the right foods and plenty of water will help reduce the risk of urolithiasis. There are also urinary health supplements that are designed to keep your dog healthy. Here are two that are recommended.

Urinary Gold for Large Canine: Pet Wellbeing provides holistic supplements and medication for pets. Their urinary gold formula supports a healthy urinary tract and normal pH in the bladder. It is 100% organic, ethically harvested and selectively imported.

Urinary Support for Dogs and Cats: The NOW Foods brand is dedicated to providing supplements and nutritious organic foods that support health. Their Urinary Support for Dogs and Cats product consists of all natural ingredients designed to promote urinary tract health and a normal pH. It also contains antioxidants, tannins, and other supportive compounds.

So, if you’re wondering, can dog food cause urinary problems, the answer is, yes it can. But fortunately, there are also plenty of ways to avoid these problems, including giving your dog the right food and providing supplements that support urinary health. What steps will you be taking to keep your dog as healthy as possible?

Easy At Home Workout Tips

Working out doesn’t have to involve trips to the gym. In fact, the expense of a gym membership and the time it takes to get to and from the gym is one of the main reasons people give for not working out. That’s why it’s fortunate that you can workout in the comfort of your own home.

Working out at home may be a new concept for some people and it might take some getting used to. But once you get the hang of it, you will love the convenience it provides.

With that in mind, here are some home fitness tips that will get you used to your new routine in no time.

3 Home Workout Tips

Clear the Space

Let’s face it, not everyone has ample room for workouts. Even if you carve out a small space, you may soon find yourself walking into things or contorting to try and stretch limbs under beds and over shelves. Therefore, you may have to get creative and move some things around. Hopefully, with a bit of effort, you will be able to make things work.

Find the Routine

It can be challenging for people who are used to working out on gym equipment to come up with a ‘freestyle’ exercise routine. However, there are many online resources that offer full workouts that do not require equipment. These include videos that you can follow along with to make your workout more fun.

Pilates and yoga can also easily be done at home. All you need is a mat and perhaps a band.

Stay Motivated

One advantage of working out at a gym is, it keeps you motivated. After all, if you pay for a membership, you might as well use it, right?

How to Stay Motivated

While it can be easy to lose motivation if you are working out at home, here are some things you can do to make sure you stick to your home workout routine:

Schedule your workouts: If you set aside a time of day for exercising, you will be more likely to stick to it. Hint: Try to schedule workouts first thing in the morning. That way you will get them done before the day gets away from you.

Exercise with a partner: A partner will be great for keeping you accountable. Since you are doing at home workouts, hopefully someone in your household will be able to join you. If not, recruiting a friend is not out of the question.

Set goals: Setting goals is a great way to stay motivated. Be sure to reward yourself for little achievements as well. This will help you stay on track and give you something to look forward to along the way.

Switching to an at home workout format can be difficult, but it is a convenient and money saving option. Once you work out the kinks, you will be glad you decided to change things up. What tips do you have for those who are starting on their home workout routines?

What Does It Mean to be Immune?

If you look up the word immune in an online dictionary, it means, “not affected or influenced by something.” On a medical level it means “resistant to a particular infection or toxin owing to the presence of specific antibodies or sensitized white blood cells.”

There are a few ways a person can become immune to diseases. This article will answer the question “what does it mean to be immune” and take a look at how immunity happens inside your body.

How Does Immunity Develop?

Everybody has an immune system. The immune system protects the body from germs and other tiny organisms that attack the body every second of the day.

Occasionally, the immune system detects a foreign substance called an antigen. When this happens, the immune system goes into high alert attacking the antigen to protect the body from disease.

The immune system’s primary defense are white blood cells or leukocytes which are located all around the body. When an antigen is detected, the leukocytes create specialized proteins called antibodies. The antibodies attach themselves to the antigen working to kill it off.

The leukocytes also memorize the antigens so they can immediately recognize them and start fighting them off immediately if they enter the body again. This memorization function is the reason why you don’t get certain diseases twice.

Scientists figured out that they can replicate this memorization function by introducing antigens in the body in a variety of ways that won’t make you sick. This is done through immunizations and vaccinations.

So, if you’re wondering, what does it mean to be immune, it means that your body has built up antibodies that can keep you from getting harmful diseases in the future.

Products that Can Build Immunity

While building up antibodies is one way to become immune to disease, you can also work on building up your immune system through healthy living. Eating the right foods and exercising will not make you completely immune to disease but it will reduce your risk of getting sick.

There are also several products on the market meant for increasing immunity. Here are two that are recommended.

Plant Therapy Immune Aid Synergy Blend: Plant Therapy is a company that provides all natural essential oils that are made to boost health and wellness. Their synergy blend is made from 100% frankincense serrata, tea tree, rosemary, lemon, sweet orange, and eucalyptus globulus. These food-grade essential oils are made to encourage a healthy immune system.

Vitanica Immune Tonic Berry: The Vitanica company prides itself in providing supplements that are fresh, high quality, and vegetarian. Their immune tonic’s active ingredient is elderberry, a fruit that has been used for centuries for its virucidal properties. The product helps you maintain health and wellness in a natural way.

Now that you know the answer to the question, what does it mean to be immune, what steps will you be taking to make sure your body is protected from illness?
