What Does It Mean to be Immune?

If you look up the word immune in an online dictionary, it means, “not affected or influenced by something.” On a medical level it means “resistant to a particular infection or toxin owing to the presence of specific antibodies or sensitized white blood cells.”

How Does Immunity Develop?

The leukocytes also memorize the antigens so they can immediately recognize them and start fighting them off immediately if they enter the body again. This memorization function is the reason why you don’t get certain diseases twice.

Scientists figured out that they can replicate this memorization function by introducing antigens in the body in a variety of ways that won’t make you sick. This is done through immunizations and vaccinations.
